Black Betty

Calgary AB: Equal parts historic preservation and modern architecture, split across two distinct levels. Granted City and Provincial Historical Status, we were challenged to not only bring the space back to its former glory, but to further transform it into a unique restaurant and bar. The concept evolved into a juxtaposition by way of retaining the 1920 speakeasy feel, but pairing it with three modern glass back-lit bars which gave the entire space an unmistakable contemporary twist. Original terrazzo floors, rich hounds-tooth fabric, velvet wallpaper, warm custom lighting and retro nickel fans all bring this space a level of comfort and sophistication not too commonly found in Calgary.
